Run, Run, Run

On 6th October two Stand by Me supporters, Ami and Charlotte, set themselves the challenge of running 26.2 miles in the Bournemouth marathon. It was a long, hard day but they completed the marathon with great celebration. However – their efforts do not stop there, as they have taken on the challenge of running the width of Ethiopia in a year! That’s a whopping 1,000 miles.

Charlotte said,
“Having seen the work of Stand by Me in Ethiopia, we were inspired to do something big and raise a lot of cash so we’ve decided to run 1,000 miles in a year. This is the distance of the width of Ethiopia!

The marathon was so hard and we couldn’t walk afterwards! But we’re already looking to book the Belfast marathon in May so the 26.2 miles we just ran hasn’t put us off.”

Charlotte and Ami are now half way through their challenge – they have already run 500 miles in total since they started on May 1st 2013 and they have 500 miles left to run by April next year.

With the money they raise, they are supporting our new school in Dembi Dollo, in Ethiopia. The children in Dembi Dollo are living deep in poverty, often without food, clean water or shelter, so Stand by Me is opening a school to care and educate over 400 children. A school will give us stability and will provide a way for us to reach out to help the families of the children and the community too.
